Co-operative Scotland
Equality Housing is a voluntary group of older LGBTQ+ people working as a co-op.
It is true for almost all of us, especially the LGBTQIA+/queer community, that we forget to think enough about our own old age. Some of us will inevitably need sheltered accommodation and a degree of care.
We are a group of queer volunteers
Equality Housing is aiming to set up a housing solution for our older community where our identities, families and importantly our culture can be valued, respected and supported. Sadly, that’s not currently an option available in Scotland. So many of us suffer as a result from isolation, exclusion and many even feel we must return into the closet in our later years.
Equality Housing believes that we deserve better
We want to do that by setting up a queer option as a co-op. Co-ops are exciting because they are member owned, democratically run businesses. Click here for more information
